March 2007 Board Meeting

Vic Vogel called to order the March 19th, 2007 executive board meeting of the Defiance County Democratic Party at 7:00 PM. There were 17 members in attendance. The guests present were Gerald Kappen, William Duffy, and Charlie Bakle.

The members excused were Mariella Pardo, David Plant, Bernard Ryan, William Wright, and Bud Saylor. The attendance was taken with a sign-up sheet.

The minutes were read and approved.

Vic passed around a management guide for the new voting system.

Reports and Committees

Charlie Gray attended the State Executive Committee in Columbus. The party is progressing nicely in regard to delegate selection plan.

Charlie Bakle reported that on April first they will discuss the state budget by the tax Commissioners.

Bev Peterson stated there is a rally Friday night in Toledo against the war. There is also a book titled "Lucasville," published in 2004 concerning the Lucasville prison riot, and a play based on this book is in Toledo.

The Henry County Democratic Womens spring event is on April 12th 2007 at the American Legion at 6:00 PM.

Communications

A letter from the ODP calling for a meeting of all County Chairs on March 24th at 10:00am at the ODP headquarters. There is a contact list of statewide office holder. Tim Burk is the Chairman of Chairs and the meeting place is changed to the Governor’s Mansion.

New Business

Tim Holtsberry questioned if we are having a spring fundraiser. He is planning on still doing some mailings. He would like to have Marc Dann as a speaker.

Governor Strickland is still requesting appointees to open board seats. Please check the government web site.

Pat Walter motioned to have the Chairman and the party endorse Tim Holtsberry as trustee to Bowling Green State University. Penny Bakle seconded and the motion passed. Vic will send a letter to the governor.

Charlie Gray led a discussion concerning the Secretary of State’s request for the Cuyahoga County election board to resign. He asked Wayne what kind of job Jennifer is doing overall. Wayne feels she is just learning the ropes. Vic stated the ballot machines will need to be recalibrated every year.

Joe ONeil informed the members that Barack Obama will be on Larry King tonight at 9:00.

Charlie motioned to adjourn and Tim Holtsberry seconded and the motion carried
