The Defiance County Democratic Meeting was held on August 13th 2007 at 7:00PM at the UAW Hall.  There were 19 members in attendance. The guests present were Charlie Bakle and Roger Molnar.  Pat Slattery and Steve Pryor were excused.

 

Donna Hitzemann read the roll call.

 

Vic introduced Democrat Roger Molnar to the meeting.

 

The minutes were read and approved.

 

Wayne Olsson presented the treasurer report.  

 

Report of Officers

The Democratic Party donated pictures of state house elected officials. Vic purchased frames to display them at the fair.  This Friday Night is set-up for the fair around 3 to 4.  Passes and opening times were discussed. The members discussed having the voting machines, absentee and registration forms available at the fair.

 

Correspondence

Vic received two letters concerning the recent newsletters that were mailed out.

The Ohio Democratic Party golf outing is August 31st at 500 dollars per person.

Wayne informed the Committee of the Defiance County Board of Election meeting. The meeting is scheduled for August 28th at the Regional Hospital.  Jennifer Brunner will attend to discuss the update of election laws in Ohio.  Wayne discussed a court case in 2006 concerning a person who filed as an Independent and then requested a Republican ballot in the next primary.  This legal suite will be discussed, this incident has occurred in Defiance County. The meeting is not open to the public.

 

Charlie Bakle stated he ordered 100 buttons for the fair and has an itemized list.  He also stated the form he passed out for his union needs to be turned in. 

 

Tim has been trying to work on the dates for the governor to visit Defiance.  There has not been a date agreed upon.

 

Vic gave a brief review of the trip to governor’s mansion.  Everyone had a nice time and enjoyed the tour and visit.

 

Bev is working on the rest of the newsletters, she dropped off 50 to Joe Eureste and he was willing to deliver them to his precinct.  Please let Bev know of any changes in addresses etc.

 

Charlie Bakle stated there are many open County seats up for the next presidential election.

 

Pat Walter questioned who should be looking for viable candidates.  Vic stated it is the steering board’s responsibility.  Pat requested us to find viable candidates.

 

Bev will post it on the web and the filing deadline is January 4th 2008.

The candidates, in attendance, were questioned on the support needed for their elections.  Mayor Bob requested help with sign location and available times.

 

Please wear Robin T-shirts out in public; she is planning on running again.

 Bev requested if anyone is planning to work at the booth fair to contact Vic, and she will post the schedule on the web site.

 

Pat Walter motioned to change the meeting to 7:00 pm.  Howard seconded and the motion carried. 

 

Charlie Gray motioned to adjourn and Tim Holtsberry seconded and the motion carried.
